Drucilla Young Chryst, 64, of New Providence, Pa. passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, April 19, 2011, with loved ones by her side. Born in Lancaster on October 5, 1946, Drue was predeceased by her dear parents, H Robert and Vivian R. (Trout) Young, Lancaster, and sisters Janet Y. Miller, Lancaster and Maralyn Y. Robinson, Florida.
She is survived by her loving husband James Freeland Chryst and a son Aaron D. Panther of Tucson, Arizona, and a brother, James D. Young of Lancaster.
Drue graduated from McCaskey High School in 1964 and York Academy of Arts in 1967. While in York Drue became the graphic designer and was Art Director for over 10 years at Yorkraft, Inc. a manufacturer of decorative wall decor, home accessories and gifts. In addition she designed the key to the City of York. She furthered her studies at the Maryland Institute of Art and other institutions throughout her life. She continued her graphic career in south Florida until moving to northern New Jersey in 1990. There she and her husband opened the Drue Chryst Art Gallery on Lake Mohawk in Sparta, New Jersey. The gallery became successful in handling fine art, custom framing and offering an array of decorative home accessories, jewelry and artful gifts.
Drue and Jim enjoyed traveling the world including trips to Tahiti, Switzerland, the Yorkshire Dales, a National Geographic tour of the Costa Rican rain forest and the Panama Canal, and most recently to New Zealand, Tasmania and Australia. They also spent considerable time in the U.S., on the west coast and in many parts of the east, including numerous trips to Abaco in the Bahamas and Bermuda.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of her life will be held at Fred F. Groff Funeral Home, 234 W.Orange St, on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 11AM with the Reverend Craig A Ross officiating. Friends and relatives will be received from 10 AM. Interment will follow at the Willow Street Mennonite Church Cemetery, Penn Grant Road, Willow Street.
